Located Rua Castilho in the heart of Lisbon, a few meters from the Praça Marques de Pombal and the famous Avenida Liberdade, our staff looks forward to welcoming you in our chic and comfortable setting. Originally a wine bar, Paralelo 45 evolved in the past few months thanks to the inspiration of Portuguese Chef Carlos Soares who joined us after working in the kitchen of prestigious Michelin star restaurant Vila Joya in Algarve. Despite this recent transformation, the identity of Paralelo 45 remains as we still have solid relationships with Portuguese wine producers as well as our international opening. Today, our concept focuses on the offer of gourmet dishes, Portuguese and French, elaborated thanks to fresh Portuguese products through our chef’s French technique. The restaurant is divided in two spaces which leaves our guests the choice between dining in the lively atmosphere of our main room and the cosy and private ambience of the tasting room . At lunch time, our 14€ « executive menu » will be presented to you upon your arrival. It is composed of a starter and a main course or a main course and a dessert depending on your mood. Based on the chef’s inspiration and the products he carefully selected from the market of the day, the menu includes a glass of wine (or a soft drink) and a coffee. In order to satisfy the most « gourmet » clients, a 17€ menu including a starter, a main course and a dessert is also available! In the image of our « à la carte » dishes, we decided to create this daily menu in order to provide an accessible « gourmet » experience to our hosts.
I graduated from a European Business School before starting my career abroad in the film industry. My passion for wine and my love for Portugal brought me into this exciting project in Lisbon, this beautiful ocean side city. It is only after studying wine and its grape varieties at the Ecole du vin de France (French School of Wine) and after spending most of my time with wine producers all over Europe that I finally decided to give birth to Paralelo 45, an elegant and relaxing place where the palates of our clients are my priority. Portuguese Chef Carlos Soares has joined us for about one year, after working in the kitchen of prestigious Michelin star restaurant Vila Joya in Algarve, one of the finest tables in Portugal. Last but not least our young but already very experienced manager Marco Matias and I are very much looking forward to welcoming you in the most professional yet friendly fashion.
Halfway between the pole and the equator, the 45th parallel forms a climatic belt which happens to be ideal for wine-growing. There are famous French vineyards on this particular latitude. In fact, some of them are considered the best in the world. In the Bordeaux region, the 45th Parallel passes through Fronsac, Pomerol and St Emilion until it crosses Côtes du Rhône between l’Hermitage and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Heading east, the lines passes right through the Italian growing regions of Piemonte, Lombardia and Venetia where you can find the renowned Valpolicella wines. As it maintains its path through the Pacific, we arrive in California where the wines from Napa Valley benefit from the freshness of the sea close by. It then arrives in Oregon where the land is considered the best for the Pinot Noir grape. The circle is complete once it goes through the Atlantic Ocean. Located on the 33d parallel, Portugal has an amazingly rich choice of breath-taking wines that we happen to be very fond of. Our goal is to make you discover both! Cheers !
